In September, our team joined Bass Coast Landcare in Lance Creek to plant 4000 indigenous lowland forest plants on a dairy farm owned by Andy and Kerry Perry.

The planting formed part of a larger Biolink restoration project within the Gippsland Plain bioregion, with 11,000 indigenous plants established across three planting days to strengthen habitat connectivity and support local biodiversity. Together with the Bass Coast Landcare team, we spent the day planting and helping restore a remnant bushland corridor that will provide habitat for local wildlife and improve ecological connections across the landscape.

It was a rewarding opportunity to step away from the studio and site and contribute directly to a project creating long-term environmental value for the region.

Building a home has a carbon cost, even a highly efficient one. We measure it on every project through a Life Cycle Assessment, and as a business we contribute a portion of our profits to organisations planting days such as this one to help offset our impact. Days like this are the other half of that commitment: getting our own hands in the soil, just as we've fenced habitat at Odonata's Mt Rothwell reserve and joined coastal clean-up events closer to home.

Landcare groups do the patient work of selecting species, preparing sites and caring for plantings long after volunteers have gone home. We're grateful to Bass Coast Landcare for inviting us to be part of such a meaningful project.

You can learn more about how we measure and offset our impact on our Impact page.
