The Nesting Guide has been built from the products and makers we trust for our own projects. Developed as a free resource to help bridge the next stage of wellbeing in your home, offering guidance on selecting furniture, lighting, textiles and homewares that align with thoughtful, environmentally conscious living.
Created by The Sociable Weaver, The Nesting Guide brings together products, makers and brands that reflect the same values embedded in the homes we design and build: durability, responsibility and care for the environment.
Rather than overwhelming with options, the guide offers a considered pathway; highlighting products that support the health of the home more broadly. A considered resource for creating a home that supports both people and planet.

Why The Nesting Guide?
For many clients, the journey towards sustainable living continues well beyond the construction phase. Questions often arise around which materials are safe, which brands operate ethically, and how to balance aesthetics with environmental responsibility.
The Nesting Guide provides a framework for making these decisions with confidence.
Each product featured has been selected for its alignment with key environmental and social considerations, supporting a holistic approach to creating interiors that feel calm, functional and enduring.
Certifications that support conscious choices
When sourcing sustainable products, certifications can offer clarity and reassurance. The Nesting Guide highlights brands that meet recognised environmental and ethical standards, including:
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Ensures textiles are free from harmful substances, supporting healthier indoor environments.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC): Confirms wood and paper products are sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS): Verifies textiles are produced using organic fibres and environmentally responsible processes.
Australian Made and Owned: Supports local manufacturing and reduces transportation impacts.
B Corp Certification: Recognises companies meeting high standards of environmental and social accountability.
These markers help ensure products are responsibly produced and contribute to healthier homes.

Values that guide selection
Beyond certifications, The Nesting Guide is shaped by a set of core values that reflect the principles underpinning sustainable architecture:
Locally Made: Supporting local makers reduces transport emissions and strengthens regional economies.
Low Embodied Carbon: Materials requiring less energy to produce help minimise environmental impact across a product’s lifecycle.
Durability: Long-lasting products reduce waste and encourage more mindful consumption.
Wellbeing: Non-toxic materials support healthier indoor environments and improve daily comfort.
Circular Economy: Designing for repair, reuse and recyclability reduces long-term environmental impact.
Together, these values encourage a slower and more intentional approach to furnishing the home.
A collaborative platform
Many of the brands featured in The Nesting Guide have been used within our completed projects, allowing clients to see how products perform within real homes.
We have worked with thoughtful Australian makers and internationally recognised design brands whose products align with our approach to sustainable design.
The Nesting Guide will continue to evolve as we collaborate with new makers, designers and suppliers committed to environmentally responsible production.
Our intention is to create a living resource — one that supports both our clients and the broader design community in making more informed choices.
